Mark Farago was born in Szeged (Hungary). He studied violin and composition at the Franz Liszt Conservatory in Szeged, later piano with Christian Favre at the Lausanne Conservatory in Switzerland. After he obtained his concert diploma (licence de concert) in Lausanne in 1994, he continued his studies with Dominique Merlet at the Geneva Conservatory, with Peter Efler at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, and finally with Leonid Brumberg (former pupil and assistant of Heinrich Neuhaus) at the Prayner Conservatory in Vienna, with a scholarship offered by the Herbert von Karajan Center in Vienna. He attended masterclasses by Lívia Rév, Kornél Zempléni, Paul Badura-Skoda and Vladimir Ashkenazy.
Since 1992 Mark Farago has given many concerts throughout Europe, mostly in Hungary, Switzerland, Austria and Germany. Among his concerts were recitals and chamber music performances at the Academy of Sciences in Budapest, Salle Paderewski in Lausanne, Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris, Musikverein Vienna, Herbert von Karajan Center Vienna, Brucknerhaus Linz, Carinthischer Sommer Ossiach/Villach, Philharmonie Luxembourg, Beethovenhaus Bonn, radio/television broadcasts at the Radio Espace 2 in Lausanne and Geneva, ORF Vienna, Bartók Rádió Budapest.
Mark Farago has been awarded many prizes in national and international competitions.
Since 2015, Mark Farago has also been working as an organist and is enthusiastically devoted to Early music and Church music. He regularly works with various ensembles and orchestras and performs as a continuo player in cantatas and oratorios.
As a soloist and chamber musician (both on the piano and organ), his repertoire ranges from Renaissance and Baroque music, Mozart, Beethoven, the Romantic piano literature, to Debussy, Ravel and Bartók.
